Departing from Bilbao at 8.30am, you will arrive at the viewpoint and start the itinerary with about two hours of free time to go from the viewpoint to the 241 stairs and access if you wish to the hermitage located on the hill. Once up, do not forget to touch the bell of the chapel three times and make a wish!. Once back, you will continue the itinerary towards Bermeo, where you will make a walking tour through this beautiful fishing village. Finally, you will go to Gernika, to visit his House of Meetings. Departure from Bilbao towards Vitoria. Once you arrive to the Capital city of the Basque Country, you will enjoy a guided walking tour through the center to discover the most emblematic corners of the city: the new cathedral, the Basque parliament, the Virgen Blanca square, the town hall, the arches, the square Machete, the church of san Miguel and more.

Then you follow the route to Salinas de Añana, one of the most surprising corners of the Basque Country. Here, we will enjoy an interesting guided tour to learn the history, architecture, archeology and biodiversity of the salt. We follow the route to Orduña, ancient customs, and start a guided visit to this historical village. Lunch included at a typical restaurant located in the medieval village of Balmaseda. After lunch, you will follow the route through the Valley of Ayala and the mining area of Bizkaia to reach the coast: Santurtzi and Portugalete. From here we cross the Transporter Bridge Bizkaia (world heritage by UNESCO) to reach Getxo and then back to Bilbao.

Ordizia market, Idiazabal cheese and San Sebastian pintxos guided tour

Departure from Bilbao at 08:30am. Via highway, you will reach the inland of Gipuzkoa until Ordizia. The traditional fair in Ordizia every Wednesday is a meeting place for buyers and sellers of agricultural produce from the area. It is sheltered by a structure with thick columns, and has numerous stalls of all kinds: Idiazabal cheese, fruit, vegetables and endless top-quality fresh produce.

Followed by a guided tour to the Idiazabal Cheese Interpretation Centre, you will enjoy an Idiazabal cheese tasting and a glass of local wine. Already hungry? You will continue with a fabulous guided tour around the old town of San Sebastian, enjoying five pintxos and two drinks in different typical bars. Then, enjoy free time in the city on your own. You would finally enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of La Concha Bay from Igeldo mountain before coming back to Bilbao.

The drive from Bilbao to San Sebastian takes about 1hr 15mins. My minivan has A/C and large panoramic windows. After a short introductory driving tour of the city, We’ll visit the Monte Igueldo for the spectacular view, and then head to the Historic Center – the “Parte Vieja”. This is where you’ll find some of the best tapas-bars in the city, as well as the lovely Basilica de Santa Maria del Coro. On the return trip to Bilbao, we’ll take the scenic route along the rugged Basque coast from Zarautz to Zumaia – its spectacular!
