Tenerife Island Tour – from the North

Tenerife is laden with hidden treasures. From quaint hamlets hardly touched by time to epic natural wonders. This full day excursion takes in top scenic and cultural sites such as the dragon tree of Icod de los Vinos, the cliffs of Los Gigantes, the pilgrimage centre of Candelaria and Puerto de la Cruz.

The first among the many marvels to discover is the legendary dragon tree at Icod de los Vinos – said by locals to be 1,000 years old. Next, the famous cliffs of Los Gigantes. These sheer rock walls of up to 500 metres plunge dramatically into the Atlantic and make an epic sight.

You’ll then pay a visit to beautiful Candelaria, the island’s religious centre. Here an imposing seafront basilica serves as a mecca for pilgrims. Facing it are the statues of Guanche kings – the aborigines who lived here centuries ago. There’ll also be time to explore the lovely resort of Puerto de la Cruz and savour some traditional Canarian delicacies.

Teide Volcano and La Orotava Tour

Spain’s highest peak looms over Tenerife. And it’s not just Mt Teide itself that impresses all who set eyes upon it – the volcanic landscapes that surround it are the ideal setting for a day in the great outdoors. You’ll also tour of the historic town of La Oratava and a drive through the Esperanza forest.

The fun kicks off in La Oratava. Its setting amid banana plantations is pure romance. You’ll see the ‘House of the Balconies’ and a volcanic stone church as well as the parks of the old town. From here, we’ll drive into the heart of the island and Teide National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Follow a route through lunar-like lava fields and over rocky ridges. At 3,718 metres, Mt Teide is a sight to behold.

On the return to your hotel, we’ll drive through the Esperanza forest. Here, tall Canarian pines – unique to these islands – cover the often misty slopes of the Cumbre Dorsal range. A trip that combines ever-changing landscapes with the dazzling panoramic views of the island.

Market Half-day

The harbour town of Los Cristianos on the south coast of Tenerife plays host to the island’s largest market. And it’s here where you’ll be able to browse for souvenirs, gifts and goods to your heart’s content. You’ll head over for a morning of shopping and soaking up the local vibe.

If you fancy a morning of retail therapy then the bustling market at Los Cristianos has all the bases covered. You’ll head on over to the seaside town in the morning to while away a few hours browsing all the stalls stocked full of anything you could want, such as souvenirs, leather goods and handicrafts.

And if you find yourself feeling tired of all that haggling, then simply take the time to stop for a drink and soak up all the atmosphere at one of the many waterfront cafes and bars. At lunchtime, we’ll head back to your resort ready for an afternoon’s relaxation.

Shogun

The action doesn’t take place only on land in Tenerife – the seas off the island are brimming with activity. This exciting waterborne excursion aboard an oriental junk boat adds an exotic touch to your holiday. The aptly named Shogun takes in the imposing Los Gigantes cliffs – a must-see.

Made of teak hardwood, the Shogun is a replica junk plying a route along the west coast. During this five-hour cruise, you’ll sail in the shadow of the legendary Los Gigantes cliffs – which rise up to 600 metres above the sea. Keep an eye out for whales and dolphins, too.

There’ll also be swimming stops and a typical lunch served on board. Paella, grilled chicken, salads and fruit with unlimited water, soft drinks, beer and sangria are all on the menu. A great day at see with some epic sightseeing.

Trekking and hiking – from the South

Few spots on earth can boast Tenerife’s variety of landscapes and climates. On this London-sized island, you can encounter volcanic badlands, gigantic cliffs, moist rainforests, surf-washed beaches, neck-craning mountains, deep gorges and snowcapped volcanoes. In other words, this continent-on-an-island is a hiker’s paradise.

With several hikes to choose from, you’ll get a close-up look that few visitors to the ‘Island of Eternal Spring’ ever see. There are also hikes on neighbouring islands – one each on Jurassic-like La Gomera and UNESCO-protected El Hierro. Hikes range in difficulty rating from moderate to tough, and can last from as little as a half-hour to 8 hours.

Routes are carefully planned to ensure you trek through jaw-dropping landscapes, redolent with exotic flora and fauna – all under the reliable Canarian sun. What’s more, you’ll get the chance to drop into a typical homestead or inn to try some of the islands’ specialities.

Flipper Uno Boat Trip

As adventures on the high-seas go, Flipper Uno is in the Premier League. Think dramatic scenery, thrill-seeking fun and a chance to spot whales and dolphins. Throw in an open bar with lunch, and you’ve got the perfect family day out on the waves.

All dark wood and sturdy sails, Flipper Uno is every bit the pirate ship. And welcomed aboard by the captain and crew, you’ll head out into the Atlantic in search of pilot whales and dolphins. Under the shadow of Los Gigantes towering cliffs, keep your camera close. Pods of these friendly sea creatures just love to show off.

Dropping anchor at Masca Bay, you’ll have the chance to cool off with a splash in the ocean. In true buccaneer style you can dive in or take on the pirate swing – a high flying trapeze rope over the water. Back on board, you’ll be served a delicious lunch of paella and fresh fruit, washed down with drinks from the open bar. With time to catch some rays on deck, you’ll cruise back towards shore at a leisurely pace

Teide by Night – from the North

Mount Teide National Park boasts some of the most breathtaking scenery and views in all the archipelago. Crowned by the volcanic peak of Mount Teide, this natural wilderness takes on an ethereal quality as the setting sun glazes its ridges and rocks in soft pinks, reds and purples.

For this tour you’ll be whisked to a height of 2,100 metres, with photo stops along the way, to toast the sunset with a glass of sparkling Cava. And as darkness blankets the landscape, you’ll continue on to a special viewpoint where your professional guide will map out the night sky for you, naming and explaining the starry constellations.

During the evening, we’ll serve you a delicious three-course dinner to set the seal on the whole magical outing.

Teide by Night – from the North

Santa Cruz & Taganana – from the North

Town and country – this varied excursion mixes up some of the best Tenerife has to offer. You’ll visit the capital – Santa Cruz de Tenerife – the cut through the jagged landscape of the Anaga Mountains to visit the remote fishing village of Taganana. The last stop is the city of La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

First up is Santa Cruz for a guided tour of its old town. Next, head into the Anaga Mountains, passing the fishing village of San Andres and enjoying eye-popping views over Las Teresitas beach – an enticing curve of golden sands clasped between the mountains and Atlantic.

Continue through epic forests and peaks before descending to Taganana, with its sugar-cube houses cascading down steep green slopes. Here, there’s free time for lunch and a chance to stroll around the quaint streets. Another scenic rollercoaster lies ahead, during the drive to La Laguna. Explore this beautiful colonial city set in the foothills of the Anagas.

Santa Cruz & Taganana – from the North

Masca – from the North

Nestled in the lush slopes in northwestern Tenerife, the mountain hamlet of Masca could have dropped straight from a fairytale. You’ll explore this remote community as well as Icod de lo Vinos and Garachico on this full day excursion.

Your excursion starts at Icod de los Vinos to see its famous – and huge – one-thousand-year old dragon tree. Stopping at the Garachico lookout point will afford amazing views of this celebrated coastal town, devastated by a 1706 eruption and rebuilt on its lava. After climbing the slopes of Erjos towards Santiago del Teide, it’s downhill to the Masca with its quaint cottages perched precariously on a rocky ridge. Wander around at your own pace and savour the beauty of this Machu Picchu-like location.

Then, it’s on to Garachico, once a hub of medieval trade and overflowing with old-world houses, sunny plazas and cobbled streets. There’ll be free time for lunch here before returning to Puerto de la Cruz.

Masca – from the North

Senses of the north

This full day tour is all about engaging your senses and experiencing Tenerife. You’ll stroll along the ‘Path of the Senses’ in Mercedes forest, shop at the market in La Laguna, taste some wines at a typical bodega, and learn how to make your own mojo sauce. It’s got it all.

To begin, you’ll head deep into the magical Mercedes forest, an ancient laurel forest, for an hour’s stroll along the wondrous Path of the Senses. Then, you’ll get to know more about the region at the museum in Anaga before continuing with a touch of retail therapy at the farmer’s market in La Laguna. Except this time you’ll be given a shopping list to get the ingredients for some mojo sauce.

But before you start cooking, you’ll stop for a well-deserved break at Bodega Álvaro to find out more about the wines and taste some. Now it’s time to roll up your sleeves, bring out the ingredients and learn how to create the perfect mojo sauce in small groups. The best bit’s saved ‘til last when you’ll get to taste it all with some tapas.

Teide National Park Tour

Tenerife’s greatest natural wonder, Mt Teide is one of the world’s largest island volcanos and Spain’s highest peak. Avoiding the busiest times of the day, this expertly guided tour explores unique habitats and offers unbeatable views over Tenerife and the rest of the Canaries.

The 3,718-metre peak is the centrepiece of its own National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park’s trails have you pass through four different climate zones, which create an ever-changing kaleidoscope of terrains, flora and fauna. From lunar-like lava fields, you’ll wander through forests of Canarian pine and across rocky ridges. And there’ll be plenty of free time for you to go up to the summit by cable car for an extra charge.

A visit to the Roques de Garcia rock formation rounds off the trip. It is a great place to view even more of the valley. What’s more, because of the early morning start to the excursion, the queues will be shorter.

Teide National Park Tour

Medieval Night

If the thought of transporting yourself back to a distant past of knights errant, broadswords and fair maidens appeals, this evening of revelry and excitement is just the thing – it’s fit for a king and the whole family.

Our band of merrymakers will travel to a royal castle for a swashbuckling show inspired by the Middle Ages. As you cross the drawbridge into the heraldic entrance hall, you’ll be greeted by the King and Queen and take a pew around the sanded arena. As the trumpets sound and smoke lifts, knights in armour perform swordfights and heroic displays of horsemanship and jousting that’ll have you cheering madly and clinking your tankards in celebration.

You can choose a champion to support and during the show, you’ll be served a right royal banquet complete with free-flowing wine and soft drinks – the perfect side order to the spine-tingling spectacle.

Medieval Night

You’ll then ride through the laurel forest of Las Mercedes on your way to Taganana, a white-washed hamlet set within Anaga Rural Park. Merenda Reale® 1800 at Gelateria Pepino

Take part in Merenda Reale® (royal snack), a delicious and original way of traveling back to the golden age when Torino’s cafés were places of culture, politics and sociability. The snack will be served at Gelateria Pepino – where the famous Pinguino® was invented and patented in 1939 – in an environment whose architectural features evoke the atmosphere of a 19th-century café.

In the 19th century, thanks to its sophisticated confectionery, Turin had earned the reputation as the ‘capital of flavor’ throughout Europe, as it was dotted by a constellation of pastry shops and meeting places. Even the Royals did not refrain from venturing out of the Palace to take a stroll under the arcades of Via di Po and savor a ‘bicerin’ – a beverage made with coffee, fior di latte, and hot chocolate – which then became a morning ritual. Many delicious delicacies were created after the eighteenth century: ‘chifel’, a variation on the Viennese croissant; ‘foré’, a kind of bagel; ‘bicciolano di Vercelli’; a shortcrust ‘brioss’; ‘parisien’, the so-called ‘democratic’ bread… In the Risorgimento period, ‘garibaldin’ (a slice of simple buttered bread) and ‘garibaldi’ (a biscuit made of shortbread with raisins and apricot jam) became very fashionable. Finally, brand new hazelnut-based specialties were created in the second half of the century: Chivasso ‘noaset’ (‘nocciolini’), ‘cri-cri’, ‘givu’, and the hazelnut chocolate that would come to be known as Gianduiotto.

The menu includes 2 courses:

  • ‘Bicerin’ with the three ‘stisse’ (three ingredients: chocolate, milk cream, and coffee) accompanied by a selection of ‘bagnati’ (biscuits to dip)
  • A plate with Chivasso ‘noaset’ (nocciolini) and other chocolate specialties (2 Gianduiottis, ‘cri-cri’ and more)

30-minute private gondola ride in Venice

Experience an exclusive and romantic 30-minute private gondola ride on the canals of Venice.
Discover the city from the water, as it was meant to be seen. See picturesque canals and enchanting Venetian architecture and share the ride with a loved one.

It is estimated that there were 8-10 thousand gondolas operating on the canals of Venice during the 17th and 18th centuries. Today, there are just 400 that are still in active service. Do not miss this opportunity to experience Venice from one of these icons on a private 30-minute ride.

Although most of the gondolas are used for touristic purposes, you’ll be fascinated by the strong bond they continue to have with the history of Venice.

Learn how each part of the boat has symbolic meanings. For example, the ferro or prow has 5 or 6 pettini (prongs) to symbolize the city’s sestieri (districts). Made of iron to balance the weight of the gondolier, the S shape evokes the flow of “Canal Grande”.

La Fenice Theatre guided visit

Built in 1792 in Neoclassical style following a competitive public exam won by one of Canova’s friend, Giannantonio Selva, the theatre was at the time one of the many private theatres for theatrical and opera performing.

In December 1836 a big fire destroyed the inside structure that was rebuilt one year later just like a mythical bird rebirthing from the ashes.

In the 19th century, the theatre staged world premieres of numerous operas including Rossini’s Tancredi, Sigismondo and Semiramide, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi (The Capulets and the Montagues) and Beatrice di Tenda, Donizetti’s Belisario (Belisarius), Pia de’ Tolomei, Maria de Rudenz, Verdi’s Ernani, Attila, Rigoletto, La traviata and Simon Boccanegra.

With a seating capacity for over 1,000 people, the Fenice boasts excellent acoustics (which were improved when the theatre was rebuilt after the devastating fire of 1996), a 98-member orchestra and 66-person opera chorus, a dedicated local audience and a large international following. The theatre is a leading creative venue, staging more than one hundred opera performances per year, a major symphonic season conducted by prominent conductors from across the globe, the full cycles of symphonies by Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms and Mahler, a contemporary repertoire focused especially on Venetian artists such as Nono and Maderna, ballets, and chamber music concerts.

Armenian Venice private tour

The purpose of this itinerary is to approach the Armenian culture and the historical presence in Venice, which became stable from the 12th century. The bond between the city and Armenians was based on diplomatic, commercial and cultural exchanges which reflect in monuments, buildings, churches, palaces, calli, campielli. The Armenian presence in the city is also confirmed by the names of some places. Afterward, with the assignment of the island of San Lazzaro (which was called “the Armenians’ island” in 1717) to the Mechitarists congregation, Venice became one of the main European centers of the Armenian culture.

An Armenian-Venetian guide will lead you to three of the most important places of Armenian memory in Venice. The itinerary will be carried out by an Armenian guide, while on the island you will be welcomed by a Mechitarist Father.

1 Hour private Gondola ride

Admire Venice from the most exclusive and breathtaking point of view: the water. Slide among centuries of history and picturesque views on a traditional Venetian gondola, an experience you will hardly forget. The gondola is one of the main symbols of Venice, as emblematic of the famous water city as mysterious in its origins. Not many people know that at the beginning this unique vessel was different from the one we can admire today, changing across time together with the city it is associated with. Of course, the history of the gondola is deeply bonded with the Venice one.

Considered one of the most beautiful and elegant boats on Earth, it is built through unique techniques and each part of it also has symbolic meanings. For example, its multi-pronged ferro, or prow, does have five or six “pettini”, symbolic of the six “sestieri” in which Venice is divided into. The function of this part made of iron is to balance gondoliere’s weigh and it has an “S” shape evoking the flow of the Canal Grande.

Not only elegance and beauty then, but a whole world also embodied in this boat nowadays the symbol of Venice. Let yourself experience in first person the gondola through this tour. An enchanting and relaxing way to enjoy the colours, lights, sights, charm and beauty of Venice. You will admire elegant bank-side palaces, unique bridges and breath the charming and magic atmosphere that only a town built on the water can give you. Can you imagine a better experience to share with the people you love? Probably difficult to find. Just take your smile and beloved one with you, the timeless beauty of Venice seen from the gondola will do the rest.

Excursions Greece,Zakynthos by Musement

Turtle Island Cruise

Fancy cruising Zante’s waters in search of its most famous residents – loggerhead sea turtles. These graceful creatures have been nesting on the island’s beaches for thousands of years but, sadly, they’re now a rare and endangered species. This is one of our TUI Collection excursions, which give you a local flavour of the destination while showcasing its unique, authentic and responsible values.

Cast out to sea and you’ll pass by the golden beaches of Vassilikos before sailing towards Marathonisi, a pine-clad islet nicknamed ‘Turtle Island’. The reason’s simple – one of its beaches is a favourite nesting site. Keep a look out for loggerheads and for dolphins, too.

Next, cruise to the Keri peninsula, passing its sea caves and lighthouse, and dropping anchor for a swim stop. Come ashore and there’s free time to explore the small village of Keri. You can shop for souvenirs, relax in a restaurant or hit the beach. On the return cruise there’s a chance to swim in a hidden bay and you may even spot some more turtles. What’s more, conservation group Archellon will be on board to tell you about their work.

Turtle Island Cruise

The smuggler’s bay

The smuggler’s bay is a white pebble beach with a surprise – because here is the shipwreck of an alleged smuggler whose ship stranded here in 1980. This boat tour takes you along the coast to discover this famous bay and other secret bays, swim in the sea and enjoy the scenery.

After being picked up at the hotels, the bus takes you to Porto Vromi, the journey takes around 90 minutes before being welcomed on board a boat that is now heading towards the smugglers’ bay. You have about half an hour to enjoy the view before the imposing white cliffs emerge from the sea and reveal the view of the mysterious bay. The shipwreck can now be admired from the boat, you can also enjoy the landscape and take one or the other Insta selfie.

Next, your captain will anchor in a nearby bay and you will have time to swim in the turquoise water. On the way back to Porto Vromi you will discover the Stegnitis Bay and the Sugar Sea Caves – both places are so secret that they do not even appear on Google. Enjoy two more swim stops here and take some pictures.

Boat trip to the turtle island

Caretta-Caretta is the Latin name for the loggerhead turtle, an endangered species that you will get to know on this excursion. These elegantly swimming animals have been laying their eggs on the beaches of this island for thousands of years, but are unfortunately now threatened with extinction.

This boat tour takes us past the golden beaches of Vassilikos before heading for Marathonisi, a pine-covered island also known as the turtle island. The reason for this is obvious – one of its beaches is often used by the turtles as a breeding ground. With a little luck, you can spot some of these primeval creatures or see dolphins here in the sea.

We continue to the Keri peninsula along the sea caves and the lighthouse. Here is anchored for a swim break. Now we go ashore to explore the small village of Keri. You can look for souvenirs, relax in a restaurant, or linger on the beach. On the way back you can swim in a hidden bay and watch other turtles if necessary. The Archellon Conservation Group will also be on board to inform you about their work to protect turtles.

It starts at Solomos Square – in the heart of the old town of Zakynthos – before we continue to the Bochali viewpoint with a fantastic view of the Ionian Sea. Next is a boat trip to the Blue Caves – surrounded by brilliant blue water, they are a real natural spectacle.

Back on land, we make a pit stop to enjoy a wine tasting in Volimes before arriving at a 14th-century monastery in Anafonitria, famous for its frescoes. After lunch, a traditional sweet treat is offered in Kampi before a final stop for a tasting of organic olive oil in a mill in Lithakia.

More than the sea

This boat trip around the northern tip of Zakynthos has it all – secret caves, sunbathing on board and to round off Greek dances. The boat goes on an unforgettable excursion to head for one of the most beautiful parts of the coast of the island and to take you to the famous Blue Caves and the Smugglers’ Bay.

On this boat trip you can experience the best sights of Zakynthos in a relaxed way. If you have the camera ready, you can take the first worthwhile photos immediately after the departure. The trip goes around the picturesque Cape of Skinari, known for its lighthouse and windmills. White cliffs contrast here with the turquoise blue water.

After about two hours on the sea, the next destination is the Smugglers Bay to see the legendary shipwreck in its dreamlike setting – voted one of the top 5 most beautiful beaches in the world by the renowned Forbes magazine. The perfect place for one or two Instagram posts. Here we can also look forward to a Greek snack with a glass of wine for adults or a juice for children. Anchor near Makris Gialos and Xigia Beach to refresh yourself during a swim break or to relax in the sun on deck. Greek dance is entertaining on the way back to the harbor.

Taste Zante

Zante is famous for its beautiful beaches and landscapes – but it has plenty of other riches, too. Its sweets, cheeses, wines and vegetables are among the finest in Greece. This is one of our TUI Collection excursions, which give you a local flavour of the destination while showcasing its unique, authentic and responsible values.

The fun kicks off at the heart and soul of any Greek town – the market. Wander among stalls overflowing with fresh local vegetables, where you can load up on whatever takes your fancy. Then it’s on to a traditional mandolato factory. This local variety of nougat – made from almonds, honey, sugar and egg whites – is one of the definitive tastes of Zante.

Next, visit the Callinico winery to understand the science behind the local reds and whites. Your food experience is then rounded off with a cooking demonstration of typical meze in a taverna in Alykanas, where you’ll also sit down to nibble on meze among new friends.

Blue Cruise

This cruise around the northern tip of Zante has it all – secret coves, on-board sunbathing and some Greek dancing to top it off. You’ll see some of the island’s most mesmerising coastline, including the famous Blue Caves and Smuggler’s Cove.

The best part of this cruise is that you’ll get to catch all of Zante’s top coastal bits in one relaxing boat trip. We’ll scoot around Cape Skinari, famed for its stone lighthouse, windmills and white cliffs against the turquoise water.

After about two hours at sea, we’ll reach Smuggler’s Cove. It’s the site of a shipwreck, which made Forbes magazine to rank it as one of the world’s top five beaches and the perfect spot for those Instagram uploads. After a few photos there’s Greek snacks to enjoy with a glass of wine for adults or juice for kids. Drop anchor for swim stops near Makris Gialos and Xigia beach then as we make our way back to the port, there’s entertainment in the form of Greek dancing.

After pick-up, head by coach to Porto Vromi – it takes about 90 minutes – and hop on a boat towards Smuggler’s Cove. Budapest Cave Walk

Many people know that Hungary is a country blessed with an abundance of thermal springs. But only few people are aware, that these same medicinal waters have carved a deep and intricate cave system under the city over the course of millions of years.

You start with a visit to Szemlő-hegyi Cave known as “the under ground flower garden of Budapest”, a tribute to the spectacular formations of pisolite and gypsum crystals. Because the caves enjoy a steady temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with dust and allergen free air, along with 100% humidity, at it lowest level there is a respiratory sanatorium.

Then take a walk to the next site, Pál-völgyi Cave. It’s the longest cave system in Hungary at around 31 km and known for its lofty passageways and great level differences. Audiophiles take note as you will experience the famous Theatre Hall, renowned as an echo chamber with its impressive acoustics. The tour concludes with a peek at the quarry from one of the caves many hidden exits.

Bucharest is definitely a fascinating city for anyone crossing its borders. But there is more to see here than just the Old Town. You are invited on a discovery trip right next to the capital city, where beautiful sights and attractions await. At 08:00, you will start your journey towards the exciting surroundings of Bucharest city. Commence your journey with the fascinating Mogoșoaia Palace, placed outside the city in a lovely location. The palace is the best example of Brâncoveanu architecture, a style widely spread around the Wallachia region. The palace was built by the ruler Constantin Brancoveanu in 1702. After the execution of Constantin Brancoveanu in Constantinople in 1714, the palace continues to be owned by the family with renovations starting in 1912. In the present, the palace hosts the Museum of Brancoveanu Art and is an important tourist attraction.

Next, move on towards one of the most famous sights in Romania and the place where Dracula is supposed to be buried – Sangov Monastery. The monastery is located on an island in the northern part of Snagov Lake. The monastery was built by Mircea the Elder (the grandfather of the famous Dracula), who also made the first documentary attestation of this church in 1408.

During its history, the monastery was rebuilt by Vlad the Impaler and some other rulers of Wallachia. It has been one of the strongest fortified churches and maybe the richest in Wallachia for a long time during the medieval period. After enjoying this great tour, it will be time to head back towards the capital city. The tour ends with a drop-off at your hotel in Bucharest.
